1782 - A fine example of this large original antique map titled: ' Les Couronnes du Nord comprenant les Royaumes de SUEDE DANEMARKCH ET NORWEGE divisee par Provinces et Gouvernements '

A highly detailed and decorative large map of Scandinavia. The map depicts the region from Iceland and Scotland and Scottish Islands eastward as far as Moscow, north to the Arctic Sea and south as far as Denmark and Germany and includes the modern day nations of Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Of particular interest is the legendary Lofoten Maelstrom in northwester Norway. This legendary whirlpool was the inspiration for Edgar Allen Poe's classic take 'Descent in the Maelstrom. In reality, it is a periodic and powerful current caused by tidal variations in the region. 
Overall size of map is 48cm x 35cm with large margins, perfect for mounting & framing
