c1715 NORTFOLCIA VERNACULE NORFOLKE Norfolk Map by Schenk & Valk (LM32-57)

c1715 - An Original Antique Map Titled: "NORFOLCIA VERNACULE NORFOLKE"

A fine example of Valk and Schenk's late-17th-century issue of Jansson's map of Norfolk, published for Jansson's British county volume of his Atlas Novus.

The map preserves a fine and detailed look at the region and highlights the only major city (Norwich) of this otherwise rural area, in red. Intricate detail is preserved throughout the map, with topography shown throughout, alongside forests, towns, rivers, and more. Parts of the neighbouring counties of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire are shown as well, with Cambridgeshire even extending to the coast.

The map includes a number of decorative elements, including the coats of arms of important figures in Norfolk, two decorative cartouches, two sailing ships, and a sea monster.

Size approximately 55cm x 45cm including margins.

Condition is generally very fine with central fold as issued and original hand colouring.
