1607 - " WILTONIAE comitatus herbida "
An outstanding example of the 1st Issue Map taken from Camden's 'Britannia' with hand colouring. This was the very first set that contained a complete set of the individual Counties of England and Wales. The maps were based on the original work of Christopher Saxton and John Norden and were engraved by William Hole and William Kip. Latin text on the verso.
Three editions of the Kip & Hole Maps were created in 1607, 1610 and 1637. This map from the 1607 is considerably rarer than the later editions and most certainly rarer than the John Speed Maps, first published in 1611.
Overall size approximately 41cm x 33cm will look fantastic once mounted and framed.
Original copperplate Antique Map in excellent condition. Central fold as issued.
