1744 - 'Asia Secundum legitimas Projectionis Stereighraphicae regulus ext juxta recentissimas obsertiones et relationes......1744'
A fine detailed map of Asia based upon Johann Mattheus Haas' stereographical project of the world. As noted in the key at the bottom centre, the map is coloured based upon the religious Grouns within Asia, including Roman Catholics, Greek Orthodox, Lutherans, Calvinists, Muslims (Ottoman and Persian sects), and Hindus.
Hass was a mathemetician and cosmographer teaching at the University in Nuremberg. Among his accomplishments was one of the more interesting world projections of the 18th Century. Homann Heirs was a German publishing firm that enjoyed a major place in the European map market throughout the eighteenth century. Founded in 1702 byu Johann Baptist Homann, the business passed to his son, Christoph, upon Johann's death in 1724. Christoph dies in 1730, aged only 27 and the firm was inherited by subsequent Homann heirs. This altered the name of the company, which was known as Homm Erben, or Homann heirs. The firm continued in business in 1848.
