1778 - ' A View of the Dutch-Fortifications and Port of Batavia '
Scene of the port.  Batavia, the Capital of the Dutch East Indies is now Jakarta in Indonesia.  It was the centre of it's trading network in Asia with nutmeg, pepper, cinnamon and cloves being the most important commodities of the spice trade.
A fine antique copper engraving taken from 'The Complete System of Geography Being a Description of All the Countries, Islands, Cities, Chief Towns, Harbours....of the Known World' by Charles Theodore Middleton.
CONDITION: Original copper engraved print in excellent condition with large margins, perfect and ready for mounting and framing.
SIZE: Overall size including margins approximately 32cm x 20cm.
