A fine example of this map of the 'Toe' of Italy and part of Sicily by Jan Jansson. Original copperplate engraved map, printed in Amsterdam around 1640 by Johannes Janssonius (*Arnhem 1588 - †Amsterdam 1664) and included in the work “Atlas Novus sive Theatrum Orbis Terrarum”. Map showing the southern part of Calabria. At the bottom right decorative cartouche containing the title, supported by two allegorical figures, below distance scales. The sea is animated by sea monsters and ships.
